Whether you are taking your first steps towards healing, seeking a new therapist, or in need of solutions to improve difficult areas in your life, I am honored to support you on your healing and growth journey. I believe there are many paths towards personal transformation and healing-that each person is on a unique course, and the therapeutic process should be equally tailored and individualized to you. My ability to support growth, change, healing, and the discovery of one’s truth, is due in part to this belief. Through engagement in therapeutic processes, whether that entail EMDR, process work through talk therapy, dream work, narrative therapy, use of your spiritual belief system, and/or engagement in the creative process; one can deepen their level of self-awareness, develop a more expansive level of consciousness, and discover new ways of being in the world. In doing so, we begin tending to our deepest core soul wounds.
I obtained my M.A. in Counseling Psychology and Expressive Arts Therapy in 2017 from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA. I obtained my B.A in Psychology in 2007 from Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont. I have been working in the mental health field for over 10 years and practicing as a therapist for 3 years. During my time in this field, I have served transitional aged adults, adolescents, children, folks who are questioning, transitioning, struggling with gender dysphoria, and those who are systems-impacted.
As a therapist I work from a strengths-based, interpersonal, human centered, intersectional, and trauma informed lens. It is important to me to hold an intersectional perspective of the world and understand the ways in which each person has been impacted by environments, systems, dominant culture, and structures of power. In viewing each person through an intersectional perspective, I have been able to hold a holistic perspective, support myself and others in externalizing and deconstructing oppression, and address privilege and marginalization. This means that throughout our work together, from the history taking and development of goals to our celebratory final session I will support you from a holistic approach. I experience working with: Depression, anxiety/stress, grief/loss, interpersonal relational stress, PTSD, gender identity, sexual orientation, disassociation, disordered eating, and trauma (including sexual trauma, attachment trauma, physical abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, religious trauma, medical trauma, near death experiences)
I am a trauma informed therapist and utilize known methods for trauma work. I am trained in: EMDR: Eye movement desensitization reprocessing therapy- to aid in deconstruction of negative cognitions, developing coping and self-care skills, and processing and healing traumatic memories and beliefs. Expressive Arts: A therapy in which one access parts of themselves through engagement in the creative process. DBT: Dialectic Behavioral Therapy- which can support in the development of emotional regulation, coping skills, and mindfulness (the ability to be present in one’s life).
Throughout my personal and professional life, I have come to understand suffering and mental health struggles as an expression of trauma, grief, and disconnection from others and oneself. While supporting others on their journey I have seen so many benefit from unpacking these different themes and areas of their life. While each person’s journey is unique, it is the shared human experience to struggle with feelings of sadness, fear, anger, powerlessness, disconnection, grief, and/or anyone struggling to know who they are or how to be in this world. The person you choose as your therapist is important. The relationship between you and your therapist can impact your progress and ability to share vulnerable parts of oneself. As your therapist I provide active listening, validation, reflections, guidance, and resources to develop or enhance interpersonal relations (with others and oneself). To be a therapist is to be invited to witness the deeper more vulnerable self; an honor which requires the ability to sit in those uncomfortable places with understanding, openness, and respect.
I believe that each person comes to a point where they will engage in meaning making, to understand and discover oneself anew and develop one’s own purpose and direction. I have come to this perspective as I have had to engage in meaning making to find purpose, direction, and healing-multiple times throughout my life. It has been in times of transition and unexpected painful situations, when I have been in most need of reassessing where I am and who I want to be. I have discovered that listening to my intuition, taking space, and developing a plan of intention is the most magical and transformative way forward. This perspective guides me as a therapist and aids me in supporting those who come to me for therapy.
I am down to earth and open-minded, believing in each person’s ability to grow and change. Others have described me as gentle, genuine, and empathic. I know myself as a person who strives to be fully present in the moment which impacts my ability be with you fully throughout our time together. I also know myself to be silly and humorous; even in challenging times, for I find laughter can be a wonderful antidote to suffering. These characteristics have supported others to feel safe, accepted, and cared for. I care for others and want to provide individuals with support and guidance as they seek healing and insight.
I am an artist, seeker, wanderer, cat mom, and lover of nature. My spirituality informs each of these roles in my life. My belief in a higher purpose and self, and deep connection to the Earth and one another, has supported me during the hardest times in life. By tuning into my heart and intuition I feel most connected to myself and thus others. This has helped me to remain hopeful, youthful at heart, and open to all the opportunities life has to offer. As a therapist, I am able to hold hope and a lust for life as we work together.
As a therapist, I also have lived experience. Becoming a therapist felt less of a choice and more of a calling to me. I knew that I wanted to be with others in the same way my own therapist (Sally) was there for me as I was struggling with depression, shame, and anxiety. Sally held love, hope, compassion, and belief in me when I was unable to do so. Her accepting and kind presence helped me move through the tender process of becoming an adult with a belief in myself. My own journey of engaging in therapy and the healing process has been lifelong. I believe that my experience as a client helps my clients, as I have always felt my most understood and attuned when talking with others who have been to similar depths and places in life. As a therapist I am invited into your life for a time, to accompany you in your process. Bearing witness to this process, I feel excitement and hope for the human spirit. Personal transformation and change is hard work. Seeing the courage it takes to face the painful and difficult times, inspires me and reinforces the belief I have in the magical power of each human being on this earth.
