Throughout my years of working as a therapist, I have noticed recurring themes that many of my clients often disclose at the onset of therapy. Many present with mood and adjustment disorders that are described as stress, anxiety, and moodiness. Often the underlying issues include struggles with self-doubt, self-worth, and codependency that lead to experiences of insecurity, rumination, and self-sabotage behaviors. Clients are typically unaware of how their unchecked, deeply-rooted subconscious beliefs are the source of their distressing dispositions. I help clients re-evaluate their outdated beliefs and behavior patterns that no longer serve them. When clients are willing to become more aware and open to explore their self-limiting perceptions and patterns, they are often able to evolve beyond their felt experiences of constant worry, isolation, sadness, shame, guilt, disempowerment, or “feeling stuck.”
As a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, I have extensive training with the latest evidence-based anxiety treatment modalities. Whether it is presented as general, relationship, or social anxiety, I help clients to become aware of and shift their unhelpful core beliefs that are at the root of their experiences of anxiety, insecurity, and fear. I support clients who struggle with self-identity, self-esteem, and perfectionist issues that are often associated with their anxiety. I have also worked with many clients who identify as Highly Sensitive, introverted, or shy.
In addition to anxiety & mood disorders, I also specialize in working with those who are struggling with codependency, acculturation, and attachment issues. I have extensive experience working with clients who have multicultural identities or in bicultural relationships. A large part my training was providing culturally-sensitive counseling services to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and those that are known to be more collectivistic or interdependent. I engage with my clients in a warm, respectful, and compassionate manner. I provide a calm and safe atmosphere that allows them to feel at ease to authentically express themselves without the fear of feeling judged. I honor the professional collaboration that I build with my clients and believe that such relationships are the foundation of successful therapeutic outcomes.
There are several keys that foster a rich therapeutic alliance between the therapist and client that can accelerate the client’s process of personal growth and meaningful change. I believe that when clients feel heard, understood, and supported with respect they are able to communicate with a greater level of transparency and congruence. Candid exploration of the concerning issue at heart often allows for more efficient and effective therapeutic outcomes. My highest regard for the client’s best interest also includes a discussion about informed consent, expectations, accountability, collaboration, and potential barriers within the therapy process. I conduct a comprehensive intake and assessment that includes client’s personal history, culture and upbringing, family dynamics, worldview, unique life experiences, and a survey of their strengths and areas of vulnerability. I believe that each individual is unique and has their own way of perceiving and addressing issues which will be part of determining their treatment plan.
Treatment will be tailored utilizing the most appropriate interventions, strategies, and relevant therapeutic modalities that are most aligned to each client’s individual situation, learning style, and personality. Additionally, I believe in a wellness model that helps my clients to empower change by focusing on their strengths and not dwelling in the past. Throughout the course of therapy, I will explain the nature of each approach being implemented and continuously evaluate the progress being made.
The treatment approach will be collaborative and client-centered. I do not believe in “a one size fits all” where I attempt to fit the client to one therapeutic modality. Often, as one goal is met or new information is introduced, it may appropriate to alter the treatment plan that best suits the client’s most pressing concern. I welcome feedback throughout our work together to ensure client’s awareness and understanding of the process towards their desired therapeutic goals. I support clients’ personal growth through a strength-based lens with several cognitive and mindfulness-based interventions that complements the client’s desired therapeutic goals. My treatment plan involves evidenced-based modalities that include EMDR, CBT, MBCT, and CFT. and EFT.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: investigates how inaccurate thought-feeling-behavior paradigms can create cognitive distortions and dysfunctional behaviors; reframes irrational thoughts with more adaptive coping skills to relieve symptoms; facilitates more effective strategies of managing and regulating mood Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy: utilizes cognitive therapy with adapting more mindfulness practices such as acceptance, nonjudgment, and present moment awareness for relief from distressful thoughts, feelings, and behaviors Compassion-Focused Therapy: promotes mental and emotional healing from patterns of shame, guilt, and self-criticism by encouraging acceptance, mindfulness, and compassionate practices towards self and others Emotion-Focused Therapy: emphasizes how emotions reflects human needs such that difficult feelings are not to be avoided, but to be aware of the function it serves; EFT blends humanistic, attachment, and narrative modalities to regulate emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and strengthen the client’s self-narrative/sense of self. My personal philosophy on life is that I believe everyone has the innate capacity and wisdom to determine their life path and purpose. I believe that every client possesses an “inner genius” that sometimes loses it way due to the varied trials and challenges that life often presents. My work with as a therapist is to help clients clear the mental and emotional blockages/barriers in order to access their resourcefulness, courage, and personal power. I notice how it is when a client accesses their ability to be courageous enough to be vulnerable and honest with themselves that they often experience the greatest breakthroughs and prevail with self-empowerment, confidence, and hope.
I believe in the goodness, dignity, and resiliency of the human spirit. My personal values of compassion, integrity, and self-determination has aligned with my work as a therapist to help inspire personal growth, positive mindsets, and emotional healing. I feel truly honored to be part of a client’s process and personal journey of transformation and healing. My life’s work as a therapist is dedicated to helping clients to overcome their personal challenges, alleviate mental and emotional distress and discover the best versions of their true selves that allows them to live more fully with peace, personal power, and joy.
