I grew up always seeing the best in people, nonjudgmental, and always justifying people’s behavior and trying to understand why people do what they do. I have always been curious to learn about human behavior and that is the reason I chose the career path I chose. I always felt passionate about my field of work and growing up never doubted the decision I have made. I enjoy working with clients on a deep personal level and my ability to empathize with my clients and build rapport has given me the ability to be a great listener and a therapist.
I have worked with clients who suffered from depression, stress, anxiety, grief, behavioral problems, trauma, OCD, PTSD, domestic violence/abuse and clients who just wanted to talk about their daily and/or relationship struggles. Approaches I use for my clients are humanistic client centered counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based counseling, narrative therapy and EMDR. I start by a biopsychosocial assessment to understand the client fully. Collaborating with the client together to produce the best approach that makes the client comfortable and safe and will produce the best outcome. I use approaches that are appropriate for each specific client with no limitation on one single approach. I use supportive therapy with active listening. I like to incorporate problem solving approach to help clients overcome issues that do not allow them to have a fulfilling life. I focus on mindfulness and being aware, learning to focus on the present and becoming their best self. During the time of my experience, I have come across themes with my clients who suffered from any type of abuse and how difficult it is for them to feel safe and understood. I learned to give them time and allow them to speak when they are ready, share what and when they wish to, and feel supported and validated. The key component of my therapeutic alliance offers respectful, supportive, sincere, non-judgmental, and safe environment for my clients. My goal is to make every client feel respected, supported, and understood despite what they are going through and what they share, while staying objective and non-judgmental.
My philosophy in life is to live life knowing yesterday is gone, today is what matters, and tomorrow is out of our control. It is important to focus on life and be mindful and aware of ourselves. I use this in my practice to help my clients become self-aware and become their happiest selves. What I find most intriguing as a mental health professional is how therapy can be so empowering and life changing when the client believes and is open for a change.
I believe strongly in my cultural values along with values of Social Work (respect, kindness, love, strong family values, gentleness, service to humanity, social justice, integrity, competence, human dignity and worth). The roles I play in life is of a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, licensed clinical social worker and a therapist. Someone who always has a leveled head and sees a way out. I pay attention to how I treat people in their most vulnerable times; hence, treat them as I would like to be treated.
The fascination and desire of helping others to overcome burdens of their lives and become the best versions of themselves has helped me choose this path. The most I love about being a mental health professional is the pride I feel when my clients show their gratitude for helping them and supporting them to change their lives for the better and learning to be happy.
I have had my LCSW for almost 3 years now; however, been in the field for over 10 years. I graduated from the University of Southern California with MSW and now I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker starting my own practice as well. I am trained in EMDR hoping to be certified soon.
