I am excited that you are here today. My primary job as a psychotherapist is to assist others manage issues in life. I enjoy helping others, I like proving the right tools to individuals in order to allow them to see their potential in life; to see them make progress towards their goals. However, this is not my only role in life. I am also a friend, partner, step parent which plays a role on who I am today and my personality. I believe my personality is very welcoming to others. I am friendly, a good listener, and empathetic, this has helped my approach in therapy as it eases the process of building rapport and setting an accepting environment. I was raised in a home, with values and morals that now define who I am and have also helped my career; this including being humble, honest, respectful and caring.
Throughout my nine years of experience I have dealt with different diagnosis including Depression, Anxiety, bipolar, adjustment disorder among others. I also have certifications in the following areas Dialectical behavior therapy, Cognitive behavioral therapy and Batterers intervention program.
My experience varies from working with individuals involved in domestic violence relationships, to also working with the children/other family members involved and the perpetrators. By providing education and the right tools to individuals, I am able to help process trauma, heal, and assist in creating a positive change. I also enjoy working with teenagers who are struggling with communication, acceptance and other issues. Working with couples can be at times challenging but it’s rewarding to change negative patterns and increase healthy communication. I have also worked with individuals in order to treat different diagnostics including anxiety, depression, bipolar among others. One of the approaches I like to utilize and find very effective is cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT teaches individuals how to understand the connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. Utilizing the help of a psychotherapist, patients are able to identify cognitive distortions and replace these ideas with well-balanced ideas, and as a result change mood and behavior. I also enjoy utilizing other therapeutic approaches such as supportive therapy, in order to provide care, normalizing, encouragement and non-judgmental environment. Family systems is an approach I also enjoy when working with families and or couples in order to assess relationships, identify problematic behavior in order to increase positive interaction between members. It has been a common factor that many of this individuals lack of a good support system, healthy coping skills, and a specific plan to treat issues they are faced with. Understanding how different mental illnesses present in each individual has helped me provide the best treatment as I am integrating both the Individual’s personality and the symptoms that need to be targeted into one specific plan.
Psychotherapy is a non-judgmental and safe environment that provides support, understanding and care for the patient. It’s understandable that at times is not easy to accept that help is needed. But one that first step is taken, individuals are one step forward towards positive change.
My philosophy in life is that in order to create change first we need to create awareness, and when awareness and willingness combine, change begins.
It’s understandable that at times is not easy to accept that help is needed. But if incredibly amazing the change a person can make when being directed in the right path.
