Life is wonderful and worth living every day to its fullest. Sounds hard to believe or just a bunch of words. Well, I BELIEVE those words. My approach to therapy is assisting clients get to the place in their lives to believe those words - FEEL them! Traumas and life stressors hold humans down like a cemented weight. I help people move beyond the traumas and hard life situations and free them from unhelpful patterns or behavior.
“If not now, when?” Meaning, do not wait a single moment to do this important work because there is NO time as of now!
I have extensive experience treating Life Transition, Addictions, Eating Disorders, Depression/Anxiety, Seniors with Cognitive Impairment (Dementia) and their Loved Ones. We Are ALL Different: I defer to the most effective approach depending on the presenting concern and meet the client to where they are in the process. This means that sometimes I use an eclectic approach involving various theoretical techniques: ● Cognitive-Behavior Therapy: CBT is a short-term, problem-focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior. ● Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy: MBCT combines the ideas of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes based on the cultivation of mindfulness. This type of therapy helps train the brain to deal with negative thoughts by accepting them, but not trying to change them or react to them.
I Don’t Work Harder Than My Client: I’m an active therapist because I don’t just sit there. I ask thought-provoking questions. I offer new perspectives. My work has practices of Western psychology, influenced by characteristics of Eastern philosophies. A few interventions consist of mindful self-awareness, reframing/rephrasing, highlighting discrepancies, and active listening. I’m an “out-of-the-box” thinker with a sense of humor sprinkled in when appropriate.
Your Not Alone - A setting where the client feels comfortable talking only happens with a strong therapeutic relationship. Together, we unveil what is “your truth”. Presented with thought-provoking questions, I provide new perspectives. My style is compassionate, direct, collaborative and encouraging. It is imperative to help strengthen and develop constructive coping tools and awareness. Short-term therapy can achieve healing and understanding when focused on eliminating obstacles to deeper self-actualization.
It is important to weld a sense of direction into your existence by being true to your values—your fundamental beliefs and guiding principles. By living my life based on my beliefs, I’m being authentic to myself which means shutting out the chatting of others, turning inward and listening to my truth. I believe in integrity, transparency, kindness, “paying it forward”, and forgiveness.
