At Quick Results Counseling, we believe therapy sessions should be extremely focused, and clients should NOT be in therapy for months, or years. In most cases, clients are able to discharge from therapy, within 12 - 24 sessions (around 3-6 months), especially if it's a life transition problem. It is the job of the clinicians at this practice, to get to the bottom of these issues, so any clinical diagnosis can be addressed, and if possible, eliminated, once and for all. Once you are functioning at your 2019 level, you will learn all the age appropriate tools, and skills. Armed with the new tools and skills, 95% of the work can start to happens outside of the therapy office - you will experiment, practice them, and keep tweaking your 2.0 version, till it works for you. Once you are at your optimal level of functioning, you should be able to graduate from sessions. In most cases, this should ONLY take about 12-24 sessions. The goal is for you to not work on these issues again.
Individual - Therapy should not be an arduous process. It should be fun and quick, when it's filled with an eagerness on the clients' end, to get over the hurdles faced. The goal is for clients to go back out there, and enjoy the life that they were born to live. Of course, some clients are in treatment for a longer period, due to severe trauma, abuse, or mental health symptoms, attached to the roadblocks faced. This population typically require between a maximum of 6-9 months, as after treatment, work to bring them to their current age functioning, starts.
Couples- When couples come in, and genuinely want to work on improving their partnership, at Quick Results Counseling, we do not start the treatment by focusing on the past ,or on what did not work. Couples do not possess the tools and skills to navigate these gridlock conversations. First phase - The couples work starts with putting in place immediate changes that needs to be adhered to on a daily basis, that produces positive results. Couples are 'banned' from speaking about the past, for a few weeks, during this phase. In the second phase, new tools and sills are taught with a lot of role playing, to instill them. Couples find this phase extremely enlightening, and are usually keen to keep trying the new skills outside of the sessions. In the third phase, after couples feel encouraged, and feel that the changes are working, then the work on the past is started. Please watch this videoon the distress a person experiences, in their relationship with a loved one, and the explanations behind it.
Children and Teenagers - This is an amazing age group to work with as they tend to come across as extremely angry. Anger is often called a secondary emotion as it's resorted to, in order to protect one's self from, or to cover up other vulnerable feelings. A primary feeling is a feeling that is felt immediately before the anger. In addition to that, depression tends to come across as irritability, anger, and/or frustration in teens. Many times parents miss the depression by focusing on behavioral issues expressed. This is usually not the case, as the teen is merely struggling to communicate that they are extremely depressed, or anxious, and tend to resort to self-harm behaviors like cutting. The work that is done with teens are in collaboration with their family members so that everyone is involved in the treatment, to sustain the changes. In addition to individual, and family work, it is helpful for teens to know that they are not the only ones who are experiencing this. Thus, there is an ONLINE teen support group that they can participate in, on a weekly basis.
Anxiety and depression - At Quick Results Counseling, we believe that anxiety should be looked at as a protection mechanism. Look at it like an invited guest. It is ONLY present under TWO circumstance; you are doing things you are NOT suppose to be doing, OR you are NOT doing the things you are suppose to be doing. Since you are struggling in facing your hurdles, it lead to anxiety. Think of it as if your internal thermostat is malfunctioning. When anxiety is not taken care of, it leads to depression, and a host of other mental health symptoms. Anxiety and depression are comorbid disorders; they tend to come together. More like chicken and egg, it shouldn't matter, which came first. Our goal is to NOT help you manage it. We want to explore the possibility of eliminating mental health symptoms, once and for all.
Trauma, child sexual abuse, loss, grief and phobias - At Quick Results Counseling, we have clinicians who specialize in general trauma, childhood trauma, and sexual trauma.. Our trauma clinicians use somatic, and EMDR treatment modalities to get to the negative cognitions attached to these trauma memories, and shifts them, within your body. Your body remembers everything. By working on the corrective experiences, and changing the story, your central nervous system will have a new narrative; thus decreasing the emotional intensity. It is natural for your body to move towards fight, flight or freeze responses, in the amygdala. With somatic, and EMDR treatment modalities, trauma neural network are moved from the amygdala to processing it fully in the hippocampus region of the brain. Once the trauma is processed, and you function at current level of functioning, our clinicians will move it to regular executive functioning in the prefrontal cortex.
Safe space / brainstorming - There are clients who seek therapy not because they necessarily have something that they need to work on; They like the idea of going to a neutral place on a weekly basis, and unloading i.e. to get things out of their system. They like brainstorming ideas, listening to themselves think out loud, having a neutral person play devil's advocate, working on strategies, life skills, or even looking at repetitive behavioral patterns. Other clients report that they enjoy ongoing weekly sessions, as it gives them a place to take care of their emotional needs, so that they do not burden their friends, and family members with issues. This then allows them to be emotionally, and physically available, for their loved ones.
Diversity, Culture, Religion, Race, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation Dr. Jayn created Quick Results Counseling, a mental health clinic that addresses the diversity need in mental health. services, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Research shows that many people do not seek mental health services due to the believe that the clinician will not understand their cultural, religious, norms, sanctions, or language. Others report that they do not seek mental health services, as there is no end in sight; that they go in for sessions, and check in about what their week was like. Many feel that they can do this with a friend.
At Quick Results Counseling, Dr. Jayn was mindful in picking clinicians who get to the "dead rat" of your issues, versus helping you spray air-fresheners, on a weekly basis. At this practice, we aim to address your challenges, in the fastest way possible, with a clinician whom you will not have to explain your culture to. Dr. Jayn has hand picked every single clinician who has education, training, awareness, and cultural competency, in working with a person unique, such as yourself.
