In my experience, cultural/societal stigma and guilt/shame is a common barrier to mental health treatment. For this reason, it is my duty to ensure you have a safe space that fosters a therapeutic healing environment. Therapeutic alliance is best achieved when your dignity and readiness for change is respected. The best treatment plan in the world means nothing if you do not believe in it. This is your journey and you have every right to drive the steering wheel.
My clients often find me to care for them in a kind, calm, and gentle demeanor. My personality allows me to be a good reflective listener who is patient and understanding. It is very important for me to be non-judgmental with all my clients in order to create a safe space and build trust. I believe it is very important to incorporate a client centered approach and respect client's self-determination. I am very honored to be able to play a key role inyour recovery. As a father and as a minority who overcame depression, your recovery builds meaning in my life. The majority of my clients face the following challenges: Depression Anxiety Trauma PTSD Generalized Anxiety Disorder Bipolar Disorder Adjustment Disorder Substance Abuse Disorder Self-Harm Suicide Ideation/Attempts
Your treatment will be tailor made with your collaboration. Treatment models work best when you are empowered, respected, and invested. My clients tend to appreciate psychoeducation on how to self-regulate and reflect on how their past experiences affect their current cognitions and behaviors. We are all unique, so let's go on this journey together and develop your needs plan in collaboration. As a Therapist, I am also human with real problems. I can attest to the following treatment models because many of them have helped me overcome my own struggles. I find that my clients tend to benefit most from a combination of theoretical orientations:
CBT Due to bad experiences, all of us have developed cognitive distortions and problematic behaviors during multiple stages of our life. This is not your fault, but we are responsible for our own resolutions and coping skills. When we are able to see our own flaws, we grow exponentially. With the CBT model, we will look at how our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and bodily sensations are inter-related. With this, we can map out areas for intervention.
DBT Everyone's healing process is different. Some of us are not ready to forgive or maybe we do not want to because we are enraged. Some of us are severely victimized and emotionally unstable. Unfortunately, "You cannot see your reflection in boiling water. Similarly, you cannot see the truth in a state of anger. When the waters calm, clarity comes." (source unknown). DBT can support you in regaining control of your life and behaviors.
Psychodynamic therapy Do you wonder why you act the way you do and how your development molded your personality and vulnerabilities? Psychodynamic approach is insight driven and can support you in exploring unresolved grief and moving forward, unhindered from the past.
Trauma informed care with Exposure Therapy: Gradual and/or Prolonged. We know that trauma can be very debilitating and horrific. As your therapist, it is absolutely crucial that I respect your readiness and willingness to work on trauma. If and when you are ready, I will be there to assess and set you up for success. You will be empowered every step of the way.
Mindfulness Anxiety plays a big role in our life. Mindfulness can support you in being present and reclaiming your tranquility. With mindfulness, we can be one with our mind and body. A five minute exercise can work wonders and restore your peace of mind.
Narrative Therapy We are the protaganist in our own story. Unfortunately, it is difficulty to see our self in this light when we are burdened with pressure, hopelessness, and depression. By externalizing the challenges, we can see the bigger picture and create a new story that is empowering and hopeful.
Gestalt Therapy We live in a complicated world where we have to find balance between our needs/desires versus cultural/societal/familial expectations and pressure. Gestalt therapy can help you navigate these complicated paths and find your voice that resonates with you most. Furthermore, it can also lead to a powerful cathartic release that is long overdue.
Behavioral Therapy As a fellow parent, I recognize how difficult it is to raise children. Financially, emotionally, and physically, it is very demanding. Raising healthy, independent, and smart children requires a fine balance between setting the tone with consequences and behavioral activation with reinforcements. You are not alone. Collaboratively, you will be able to master parenting skills to set your children for success, happiness, independence, and a healthy lifestyle.
