I am a very patient and empathetic person. I have a warm, inviting demeanor that encourages a working relationship with my clients. I understand change takes time and am willing to be an active, supportive therapist to help change and progress happen for each of my clients.
I initially take time to build rapport and explore the event(s) that brought the individual, couple, or family to therapy. We will then utilize the beginning phase of therapy to thoroughly hear out the specific needs and expectations the client would like to gain from the therapeutic process. Understanding the history of the individual/couple/family will also aid in framing their current needs and expectations with their previous experiences, positive and negative. We will then work together to develop attainable treatment goals and tools to achieve these goals. Depending on the specific needs the therapeutic methods used will be eclectic at time with focused treatment methods such as Cognitive Behavioral, Applied Behavior Analysis and Attachment Therapy. I am trained to apply EMDR methods to our work together.
Issues I have experience in are: Autism Spectrum Disorder in children and adults Fetal Alcohol Syndrome in children Foster Care and Dependency Issues Adoption related issues Behavioral issues in children and teens Couples Therapy Grief/Loss Trauma
Agape Love is unconditional love from God, which prompts me to pursue unconditional positive regard for each of my clients. This fosters a sense of safety where growth can take place. It has been a privilege to come alongside individuals and families in the midst of trials/tribulations and watch hope spring from their inner work. I have a strong conviction in a Christian worldview and live by treating others the way we want to be treated in order to have agape love for all. The roles I play in life include, wife, mother, social worker, social and church group participant/volunteer. I am enthusiastic to participate in an individual’s decision to grow and have hope in life, no matter what the circumstance may be. Seeing a client realize there is hope and goals being met to pursue a life being lived to its fullest. I have been practicing 19 years in social work and 7 years in therapy. I graduated from Cal Poly University Pomona in 2001 and went on to receive a Masters of Clinical Psychology in 2003 at Vanguard University. I am Behavior Therapy trained in ABA and SAFE trained to conduct psychosocial strength based assessments for resource families and adoption home studies.
